It's Not THAT Familiar

For anyone who has been a Christ-follower for more than a handful of years, it can be easy to get familiar with common Bible stories and scriptures. You might find yourself skimming scripture instead of reading it word for word. Or skipping over a friend's inspirational post because you already know that the Lord “plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” Or to tune out during a sermon because even your toddler can quote John 3:16.

I found myself doing this recently during a Bible Study. I felt the urge to skip ahead or rush through because I was already familiar with what I was reading. Let me encourage you the way God encouraged me that day.
“Don’t neglect the familiar. Instead, prayerfully look for NEW in what you THINK you know.”

The God we serve is anything but predictable. His Word, just like Him, is alive and active. And while He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore, he is always working, moving, and doing new things in the lives of believers.

The enemy would love a Christ-follower, who thinks they have read it all, to just close their Bible and swipe open their phone. Let’s not fall into that trap, friends.
