Your Father's Business

A few weeks ago during worship at youth, the sound made the loudest high pitch squeal I’ve ever heard. I swear I jumped 3 ft off the ground. I immediately turned to my friend and said “Whoa, I thought that was Jesus coming back.” Later that evening my daughter, Gracyn, who had been far across the room at the time of the false alarm said to my friend “I actually thought Jesus was coming back.” It was hilarious that we both thought the same thing but even funnier that G and I are that dramatic.

The imminent return of Jesus was obviously on our minds. But it got me thinking, if we are so expectant of Jesus’ return that we freak out over a sound malfunction, shouldn’t we be living more like He is coming back soon?

If you knew Jesus was coming back tomorrow, how would you live differently today? Friends, the return of Jesus is good news and I long for the day, but until the trumpet actually sounds, we have a job to do! Our task as Christ-followers is to be about our Father’s business. His business: Spend time with Him daily, share the life-saving news of Jesus with the lost, and exercise your God-given authority to drive back the darkness of the enemy.

Enough of the “Whoa is me, the world is falling apart” garbage. Instead, we should be thinking “Whoa, it’s up to me to show a broken and hurting world the love and hope of Jesus.” Let this be our friendly reminder to be about your Father’s Business today.
